My work includes aesthetic / cosmetic surgery, skin cancer, lower limb reconstruction, and peripheral nerve surgery, as well as surgery of the hand and wrist.
Breast cosmetic surgery: For both primary breast augmentation, and for revision surgery, I almost exclusively use Natrelle (Allergan) anatomical (shaped) implants.
These implants give appropriate volume and projection in the lower half of the breast. The shape also helps make the upper part of the implant less potentially visible.
Surgery for breast augmentation or breast lift, usually requires an overnight stay. Women undergoing breast reduction tend to stay two nights.
Abdominal cosmetic surgery: I perform scar revision, and abdominoplasty.
Facial cosmetic surgery: I perform prominent ear correction, eye-lid surgery, and face-lift surgery (I predominantly use short-scar techniques: either the lateral SMASectomy or SMAS plication).
Hand and Wrist surgery: I treat most hand problems: including carpal tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren's disease, arthritis, nerve injury, children's hand surgery, and trauma of soft tissues, bones and ligaments in the hand and wrist. I carry out Xiapex injections for Dupuytrens disease.
Skin surgery: I perform surgery for skin cancer and scars. I am a core member of the Addenbrooke's skin cancer multi-disciplinary team.
Medicolegal work: I regularly write reports after personal injury, my expertise includes burns, scarring, hand, lower limb soft tissue trauma and peripheral nerve injuries. I am an advisor to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman.
In 2003 I was awarded a BSSH travelling fellowship, and was the fellow in hand and wrist surgery at the Cliveden-Hill and St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne Australia. In 2004 I was the senior fellow in plastic and reconstructive at St James's Hospital Leeds.
I am interested in safety and in evidence based medical care. I am part of the faculty for the Royal College of Surgeons Advanced Hand and Wrist Surgery Skills course.
I am the founder of the Cambridge lower limb flap course. I am a registered educational supervisor for trainee plastic surgeons, and was the clinical director for plastic surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital between 2010 and 2014.
I was a member of the British Hand Surgery Society Research and Audit Group. I was elected to the council of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand between 2012 and 2015.
I am a regular reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery. I have published on cosmetic surgery, patient safety, medical ethics, wound healing, tissue engineering, peripheral nerve surgery, and hand surgery.
I am the current Addenbrooke's Hospital Foundation Year One Programme Director.
I live and work within the City of Cambridge. I have a young family. When time allows I enjoy sports including rowing, cycling, and running, and enjoy past-times including painting, drawing and walking our dog.
